PROGRAMS

We've been teaching skills, technique and sportsmanship to all levels of skaters in Outlook and surrounding communities since 2012. We offer a dynamic and comprehensive range of programs – from learn to skate, figure skating, synchronized skating and power skating – which improve the skills of our 100 members, who range in age from 3 to adult.

Our aim is to help each skater achieve his or her personal goals, enhance self-esteem and promote a healthy lifestyle. We do this by teaching high quality skating skills in a friendly, accessible, team-oriented environment. Based out of the Jim Kook RecPlex, we are a not-for-profit Skate Canada-sanctioned club made possible thanks to our dedicated team of volunteers and board members, who work alongside professional skating coaches.

Tentative Program Schedule

Dates subject to change; times will not conflict with hockey

Tuesdays - StarSkate/CanSkate

Thursdays - StarSkate & Synchro

We offer a wide range of programs to help every skater reach their goals.  All of our programs are Skate Canada sanctioned programs.  Skate Canada is a National organization that has been teaching Canadians to skate since 1887.

All of our coaches are certified through Skate Canada and have current First Aid training, ethical and respect in sport training as well as background checks.  On top of that our coaches are required to continually upgrade their education every year before they are allowed to register as a coach for the season

Programs: Welcome

CanSkate

CanSkate is Skate Canada's flagship learn-to-skate program, developed by experts to teach the fundamentals of skating to beginners of all ages. CanSkate provides a solid background for all ice sports and is suitable for new skaters as well as those with some experience. CanSkate is the feeder program to all other Skate Canada Skating Programs.

When you sign up for CanSkate you will be in a program that focuses on fun, participation and basic skill development. You will earn badges and other incentives as you learn fundamental skating skills. Lessons are given in a group format and led by an NCCP certified professional coach. Professional coaches are assisted by trained Program Assistants. Skaters progress at their own rate and coaches make sessions active using teaching aids and a wide variety of activities that create a fun environment and promote learning.

OutlookSKATE - STAR Skate

Skills, Test, Achievement, Recognition - that is what STARSkate is all about

STARSkate offers opportunities for skaters of all ages to develop fundamental figure skating skills in areas of ice dance, skating skill, free skate and interpretive skating. Unique in Canada, this program teaches figure skating in a group and/or private lesson format in a progressive and sequential manner and includes specifically designed awards and incentives. Skaters have the opportunity to take Skate Canada Tests through a nationally standardized testing system. Skaters who wish to challenge their figure skating skills and who show potential as competitive skaters can participate in competitions.

OutlookPOWER - Power Skate

CanPowerSkate is Canada's only nationally regulated power skating program. Our program uses expert techniques to develop players' agility, acceleration and endurance through strong and controlled edges, quick turns and powerful stops and starts.

Our CanPower sessions are led by experienced professional power skating/figure skating coaches with many years of experience with players at all levels. Skaters must be able to skate forwards/backwards and stop independently. On-ice instruction requires full hockey gear + sticks.

Not sure what can hockey players learn from figure skaters? From Jeff Skinner to Brian Boyle, here's what they're saying in the NHL at www.nhl.com

OutlookSYNCHO - Sychronized Skating

Synchronized skating or “synchro” is a specialized discipline of skating involving groups of eight or more skaters performing various group formations and maneuvers. The objective is for the team to perform as one unit executing circles, blocks, lines, wheels and intersections in unison to the music, while demonstrating quality edges, power and flow. This program is suitable for any skater who has reached CanSkate Level 4 or higher and wants to pursue more figure skating.
